There’s nothing quite like that fresh, smooth feeling after getting waxed. But to get the best results (and the least irritation), a little prep before your appointment goes a long way. Whether it’s your first time or you’re a waxing regular, here are our go-to tips to help you walk into your appointment confident and ready!

Gloved hand removes wax strip from an arm on a white towel, focusing on hair removal process. Soft lighting, relaxed spa setting.

1. Let Your Hair Grow (Just a Little)

For the wax to grip properly, your hair should be about ¼ inch long (think the size of a grain of rice). If it’s too short, the wax can’t catch it; too long, and it may cause unnecessary tugging. So skip shaving between visits and let your hair grow in evenly for smoother, longer-lasting results.

2. Exfoliate Beforehand

A gentle exfoliation a day or two before your appointment helps remove dead skin and lifts any trapped hairs. Use a mild scrub or exfoliating mitt, ensure nothing harsh or overly scented. Avoid exfoliating on the actual day of your wax as freshly scrubbed skin can be more sensitive.

3. Keep It Clean & Dry

Come to your appointment with clean skin. That means avoiding lotions, oils, or deodorant. These can form a barrier that prevents the wax from sticking properly. If you’re coming from work or the gym, a quick wipe-down before your session is always a good idea.

4. Time It Right

If you’re extra sensitive during your menstrual cycle, try booking your wax a few days before or after. Your skin tends to be less tender, which means a more comfortable experience.

5. Take the Edge Off (If You Need To)

If you’re worried about discomfort, you can take an over-the-counter pain reliever like ibuprofen 30 minutes before your appointment.

6. Dress for Comfort

After your wax, your skin needs to breathe. Choose loose, breathable clothing like cotton underwear or relaxed-fit pants to prevent irritation and let your skin recover naturally.

7. Post-Wax Care Matters

Your aftercare routine keeps your skin happy. Avoid heat, friction, and sweat for at least 24 hours. That means no hot showers, saunas, tight clothing, or workouts.

8. Stay Consistent

Waxing regularly, about every 4-6 weeks, helps your hair grow back finer and softer over time. Sticking to a schedule also makes each session quicker and more comfortable.
